I just read an article on Fast Company about a new App called Fleck. So far it pretty interesting, There are amazing photos and then there are photos that don’t really belong.
Here’s a link to the Fast Company Story.
Ikea. Anyone who knows me, knows I like Ikea – a lot. I like Ikea for so many reasons but mostly these three things; design, availability and rejuvenation. The design might be “inspired” by a classic or just a fresh idea, either way it’s design that’s available to me. It’s available because its affordable and right down the street, but what good is design if it can’t be used ? For those reasons I think it’s also rejuvenating, that Ikea smell of “European Wood” when you open the box and start sorting your parts. Whether its a Billy bookcase or new bed it’s a fresh start and for me that’s always a smile.
Backpacking: One Step at a Time… through time. Besides loving the outdoors and carrying the dream of the Appalachian Trail in my own personal backpack, I saw this and couldn’t pass it up. There’s still great info in here that your Garmin GPS can’t help you with it. The layout is clean and the black & white photos are well composed and complimented with the typical 70’s line drawing cartoons. While shooting this, with my iPhone, I realized I’m enjoying this so much I’ll need to build a set in the basement to get better shots.
I’m part of the 130+ million folks using Instagram but I’m proud to say that I haven’t posted one “selfie” shot. 🙂 Instead I focus on nature or unique perspectives. Since I joined in October of 2010, that’s the aspect of IG that I really enjoy, seeing different perspectives of the world that I wouldn’t normally see from around the world. When I first started it was close-knit group of folks doing amazing things with the iPhone. I think the that core essence of IG is still there, you just have to search a bit harder to find it now. Just remember to use those #hashtags to find the type of imagery you really enjoy, and start following those photographers. Have fun.
Since I started this site / blog I didn’t know what I’d want to say or talk about in the blog. I think I’m going to use it to share some of my design and typography “finds”. I’ve been collecting and buying books since I was in 6th grade going to the original Maxwell Street where my grandfather taught me the ways of the “negotiation”. With that said, I’m going to start with a Scout Field Book I found while wandering the Western Illinois’s Yard Sale circuit. I really enjoy the sketches and typography from these early scout manuals. These drawings make me want to order some canvas and make my own tent. I’ll post when I can or I find something cool. Thanks for stopping by.
